DroneShield expands global availability of C-UAS offering

The Sydney-based counter-UAS company has expanded its market footprint in the UK after achieving compliance with an operating standard.

DroneShield is now officially compliant with the UK Ministry of Defence (UK MOD) SAPIENT standard — a common operating format for defence devices, originally developed by the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL).

SAPIENT has since been adopted as the standard counter drone communication system in the UK across AI and autonomy in networked multi-sensor systems in security and defence.

The operating format is also being evaluated as a potential NATO standard for counter-drone systems.

DroneShield’s AI-enabled counterdrone/C-UAS RfPatrol, RfOne, and DroneSentry-X products could now provide a SAPIENT compliant output.

This comes just months after DroneShield announced it is “fully compliant” with the US government’s Team Awareness Kit (TAK), securing certification for its sensor and command-and-control platforms, including RfPatrol, RfOne and DroneSentry-X.

The ASX-listed company’s CEO, Oleg Vornik, noted the importance of expanding global access to DroneShield’s offering, now available in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

“We have on-the-ground team members in all three countries, supported by a network of highly capable local partners – in the case of UK, our partner is BT with its substantial defence credentials, as well as being a household name in the UK market,” Vornik said.

“Compliance with the SAPIENT format was driven by end-user requests from our UK and European militaries.

“It ensures our networked devices are plug-and-play compatible to the common operating format of other devices and systems of those end-users.”

Vornik revealed the company is currently negotiating acquisition tender processes with UK and European end-users, which require SAPIENT compliance.

He added SAPIENT compliance would deliver a “material increase” in value for the company.
