New strategy reshapes Defence footprint
If you’ve tuned into the Defence Connect Podcast or joined us at one of our events, you’ve probably heard the phrase “once-in-a-generation uplift” more times than you can count. So much so, it risks losing its point.
But the truth is, we’re in the thick of an era defined by rapid military transformation. Emerging technologies, geopolitical instability and a shift towards more authoritarian global dynamics are forcing us – as an industry – to constantly reassess how we deliver capability for Defence and the Commonwealth.
This same momentum applies to an area that, I’ll admit, I’ve overlooked in the past: base and infrastructure management.
That’s changing. The National Defence Strategy lays it out clearly – our bases are critical enablers of force projection, especially in our north. It’s a simple, strategic reality: deterrence requires readiness, and readiness begins at home.
This e-book marks the launch of our inaugural Bases and Infrastructure Report. Inside, we explore how Defence is approaching the estate of the future – from innovation and investment to the looming question of divestment where strategic relevance has faded.
A huge thank you to the teams at Sitzler and Stantec for their contributions. Their insights shed light on what next-generation base and infrastructure management looks like – and how Australian industry is stepping up to ensure we’re equipped to meet the challenges ahead.
As always, if you have feedback, questions, or just want to connect about our upcoming editions, feel free to reach out to me or the team.
Until next time,
