Royal Australian Air Force Chief of Joint Capabilities Warren McDonald has been promoted to the rank of Air Marshal.

Air Marshal is the second highest active rank in the RAAF, and is considered a three-star rank.
Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne acknowledged the contributions AIRMSHL McDonald and Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) have made to the Australian Defence Force.
“Air Marshal McDonald joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) at the age of 15 as an apprentice motor fitter,” Minister Pyne said.
“He has held a number of key positions, including Commander Air Mobility Group and Deputy Chief of Air Force.
“Established in July 2017, Joint Capabilities Group plays a vital role in managing a number of functions that support the ADF’s joint capability requirements, including education and training, health, logistics and military police.”
The elevation of the Chief of Joint Capabilities to a three-star position is a reflection of the importance the position held in Defence, according to Minister Pyne.
“JCG works closely with industry and academia to ensure Defence provides the very best support to joint ADF activities,” Minister Pyne said.
“The Chief of Joint Capabilities is also the capability manager for the fifth domain of war─ information warfare.
“Air Marshal McDonald will continue at the helm of this innovative and rapidly developing group.”
