Bombardier Defense’s presence in Australia – a key market for the company – continues its growth trajectory.
Globally Recognized ISR-Platform Provider
Bombardier Defense is known around the world for its commitment to quality, reliability, and performance. Leveraging experience derived from a fleet of more than 500 special mission aircraft and an operational track record of over 3 million fleet hours, Bombardier Defense has become the go-to provider of solutions for the most critical missions.
The flexible Challenger and Global platforms have the robustness and versatility to be transformed into elite surveillance tools and endorsed as the platform of choice by the US Army’s High-Altitude Detection and Exploitation System (HADES) program. While the Global aircraft’s performance was a key reason for its selection, so too was the aircraft’s signature smooth ride technology, minimizing crew fatigue and providing the most stable sensor platform available.
The United States Army is prioritizing deep sensing capabilities for modernization purposes, emphasizing the importance of enabling long-range fires to see farther and gain understanding earlier. This capability is built from foundational data layers across multiple domains, and relies on aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems to maintain an asymmetric information advantage, and more effectively adapt to the fast-changing nature of the information environment. Bombardier Defense also plays a crucial role in the German PEGASUS (Persistent German Airborne Surveillance System) program, which uses a Global 6000 aircraft equipped with HENSOLDT’s ‘KALAETRON Integral’ signals intelligence (SIGINT) system for high-altitude, long-range, and persistent intelligence capabilities.
In addition to its Global aircraft, Bombardier’s Challenger aircraft can also be modified for multi-intelligence configurations. The Finnish Border Guard selected Sierra Nevada Corporation’s RAPCON-X™ solution with the proven Bombardier Challenger 650 aircraft as the platform for this multi-role capability, offering best-in-class cabin size, payload, electrical power and flexibility.
Bombardier’s Challenger and Global aircraft families have increasingly been chosen as the solution for critical missions around the world. Whether for maritime surveillance, aeromedical evacuation operations, or high-end military missions like signals intelligence, operators globally are choosing Bombardier Defense platforms as their first choice. Leveraging in-production platforms with cost-effective solutions assures operators their investment is available when needed, regardless of theater or environment.
Proven Reliability for Critical Missions
Bombardier Defense has continued its rise as the provider of choice for special mission aircraft solutions worldwide. From maritime surveillance and aeromedical evacuation to high-end military applications such as signals intelligence collection, Bombardier’s platforms have been adapted for over a dozen mission-types.
Class-leading speed and range, coupled with impressive runway performance and reliability mean Bombardier jets are ideal for many missions. Bombardier Defense has long-standing relationships with top sensor providers and system integrators, the flexibility to work with customer-selected partners to provide tailored solutions, and the ability to share intellectual property that is critical for successful outcomes.
When lives are on the line, aeromedical evacuation aircraft must be ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Bombardier has been delivering these aircraft for over four decades, with aircraft in more than 20 countries, including with LifeFlight in Australia. Bombardier Defense can perform dedicated modifications with capabilities ranging from intensive care to the delivery of remote primary health, or be provisioned with “quick change” options, allowing these aircraft to retain their utility as executive transport when needed.
The company has also delivered four Challenger 604 aircraft to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for search and rescue missions, as well as several Learjet 30 and 60 aircraft to Air Affairs Australia which provide training support to the Australian Defence Force. The presence of these missionized aircraft further strengthens Bombardier Defense’s presence in the region.
Bombardier’s Expanding Services and Support Footprint in Australia
With the opening of its service centre in Melbourne in 2022, and the opening of a dedicated Bombardier Defense office in Adelaide last year, Bombardier continues to cement its presence across Australia and the western Pacific while supporting a growing fleet with Bombardier’s technical expertise.
This presence is rapidly expanding. Earlier this month, Bombardier announced the opening of a new Line Maintenance Station (LMS) in Perth, Australia, expanding the company’s presence in Asia-Pacific and strengthening its capabilities in the region. The addition of a LMS in Sydney, Australia, is also planned.
Bombardier also counts two wholly owned service centres in the Asia-Pacific region. The Singapore Service Centre offers customers a complete suite of maintenance and modification capabilities and a parts depot. The company’s Melbourne Service Centre also features enhanced service capabilities, including the capacity to accommodate up to six aircraft at a time.
With support teams available 24/7, customers can rely on a highly skilled global network of technicians to service their aircraft swiftly and efficiently. Accessible aftermarket care allows customers to deploy their assets in different theaters, with the peace of mind that services are available in all regions. The company’s services and support business has also developed extensive personnel and supply chain networks across the world, including in Australia, that can support the maintenance of all aircraft models, including defense assets.
