Embraer Defense & Security has used the Miami-based Special Operations Forces Week conference to demonstrate the KC‑390 Millennium multi‑mission capabilities of its medium‑airlift and tanker platform for special forces operations.
Special Operations Forces Week (SOF Week) is widely regarded as the premier global gathering of special operators, industry leaders and strategic partners. During the three‑day event, a KC‑390 Millennium operated by the Brazilian Air Force will be on static display at Sheltair Aviation.
Jake Williams, vice‑president of business development, North America, for Embraer Defense & Security, highlighted the aircraft’s versatility, saying, “The KC‑390 offers an unbeatable value proposition, combining rapid mission‑reconfiguration capability with cutting‑edge technology, higher airspeed and quicker turnarounds. This translates into enhanced operational efficiency and low life cycle costs.”
Equipped with a modern suite of sensors and communications systems, the KC‑390 ensures vital connectivity between aircraft, command centres and troops on the ground. Its integrated electronic warfare and self‑protection package further boosts survivability in contested environments.
Designed and built in the 21st century, the KC‑390 Millennium is a true multi‑mission jet, achieving a mission‑availability rate of 99 per cent while maintaining low operating costs.
Williams added, “It is the best aircraft in its class for SOF missions, able to perform a wide range of tasks, including air‑to‑air refuelling and Agile Combat Employment.”
Its turbofan engines provide strategic range and speed, reducing transit times, while its tactical cargo‑handling capabilities support precision airdrops, humanitarian relief and medical evacuation.
The aircraft can conduct personnel airdrops from up to 36,000 feet, operate from semi‑prepared runways and rapidly switch between roles such as airdrop, aerial firefighting and air‑to‑air refuelling.
Embraer’s KC‑390 has gained traction among NATO members and European allies. Already in service with Brazil, Portugal and Hungary, the aircraft has been ordered by the Netherlands, Austria and the Czech Republic, and was recently selected by Sweden and Slovakia. South Korea has also confirmed its purchase.
Now in full production and at full operational capability, the KC‑390 Millennium is available off the shelf to meet the needs of the United States and other global customers confronting emerging threats.
