Spanish defence company Indra has presented a new VALERO multipurpose air vehicle at the International Defence and Security Exhibition of Spain.

The new weapon system is designed for collaborative combat to reduce risk and increase the success of military operations.

The system is reportedly designed to fly in different modes and carry various kinds of payloads, depending on the mission to be fulfilled, with capabilities in multi-domain confrontations.

“The aim of this innovative, ambitious and structural project is to drive the national industrial fabric throughout the country,” said Indra weapons and ammunitions director Manuel Rodríguez Cerezo.

“For this purpose, we’re collaborating with different companies in the sector, attracting talent, endowing ourselves with industrial capabilities, and relying on universities and specialised centres.

“With VALERO, we’ll contribute to reinforcing our industry, creating quality jobs and consolidating industrial corridors that can address the new challenges facing the sector and help us define the future of defence.”

The VALERO can be used for saturation with low-cost combat mass, collaboration combat and deception operations as well as being launched from different platforms or the surface, according to the company.

In addition to the light multipurpose air vehicle, the VALERO weapon system is complemented by a configurable surface launcher, a planning and control ground segment, and the associated support equipment.
