Fixed-wing loitering munitions with beyond 40-kilometre ranges have been tested by the Ukrainian government during the first examination in a planned series of three trials.
More than 10 manufacturer teams tested their fixed-wing loitering munitions in flights exceeding the distance and simulated strikes on designated targets.
The event was attended by Armed Forces of Ukraine Deputy Commander in Chief Brigadier General Andrii Lebedenko, the Armed Forces’ Innovation Directorate as well as representatives of Ukraine’s security and defence forces.
“The initial trial aimed to assess the readiness of systems currently available on the Ukrainian market and identify the most effective solutions. Based on these results, manufacturers can refine their platforms and proceed to the next round of field testing,” according to a statement from Brave1, the Ukraine government’s coordinated platform for defence technology.
“In addition to complete unmanned systems, the event showcased Ukrainian-made components and software solutions, including those based on artificial intelligence. These technologies may be integrated into loitering munitions in the future to enhance their effectiveness.
“The criteria for manufacturers included specialised video transmission at an affordable price and a number of other technical requirements.”
