Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has announced a new contract with the US government for the production of Generation 4 Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor systems for the Polish Air Force’s newly acquired AH-64E Apache attack helicopters.
The deal forms part of a foreign military sales (FMS) agreement and marks the first time the Common Sensor Electronic Unit (CSEU) and Generation 2 Turret will be included as baseline components for Apache sensors.
The Generation 4 Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (Gen 4 TADS/PNVS) suite delivers enhanced long-range target acquisition, precision engagement and pilot vision capability under all conditions day, night or in adverse weather. These upgrades allow Apache pilots to operate from stand-off distances, increasing survivability while maintaining lethality on the battlefield.
“We are proud to support Poland's modernisation efforts by providing our battle-proven TADS/PNVS systems for their new AH-64E Apache helicopters,” said Tom Eldredge, director of Rotary Wing Sensors at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.
In a significant step for Polish defence industry capability, Lockheed Martin will also collaborate with Poland to establish a TADS/PNVS Special Repair Activity (SRA) facility at WZL1 in Łódź. The new facility will boost Poland’s sovereign support capability, allowing local repair and maintenance of key sensor components.
“The SRA will support local maintenance and repair of most Gen 4 TADS/PNVS system repairable parts,” Eldredge said. “This capability will enable the Polish Air Force to quickly complete any required maintenance and keep their aircraft operational.”
The delivery of these cutting-edge sensor systems highlights Lockheed Martin’s ongoing commitment to supporting allied nations with advanced defence technologies. For Poland, the capability offers a significant enhancement to operational readiness as it prepares to integrate the Apache fleet into its armed forces.
This development also aligns with broader NATO objectives to strengthen eastern flank capabilities and industrial self-sufficiency amid a more complex and contested European security environment.
