Poland will acquire F-35 equipment, sustainment under a US$1.85 billion foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.
The US Congress was notified of the possible foreign military sale by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 26 August.
The possible sale also includes services and support, such as the Aircraft Engine Component Improvement Program, major and minor modifications, spare parts, consumables and accessories, repair and return support, weapon system support, classified and unclassified publications.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe,” according to a statement from the US DSCA.
“The proposed sale will improve Poland’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing the reliability of its F-35 fleet. Poland will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.
“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Poland.”
General Electric Aerospace is expected to be the principal contractor.
