Germany will acquire more than 400 AIM-120D-3 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles and equipment under a possible US$1.23 billion foreign military sale approved by the US State Department.
The US Congress was notified of the possible foreign military sale (FMS) by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) earlier this month.
The possible sale includes the missiles, 12 AIM-120D-3 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) guidance sections, an AIM-120 AMRAAM integrated test vehicle, AMRAAM telemetry kits, control sections, containers, and support equipment; ADU-891 adaptor group test sets, spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” according to a statement published by the DSCA.
“The proposed sale will improve Germany’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing increased air-to-air capability for the German F-35 program and supporting German and shared NATO planning, training and operational requirements.
“Germany will have no difficulty absorbing these articles into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
“Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional US government or contractor representatives to Germany. There will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this proposed sale.”
RTX Corporation will be the principal contractor.
