General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a division of global defence giant General Dynamics, has been awarded a US$1.5 billion (AU$2.3 billion) contract to overhaul and modernise the US Strategic Command’s enterprise IT systems.
The deal, awarded in May, covers an initial one-year period with the option for six further years. It is aimed at boosting the US Strategic Command’s (USSTRATCOM) operational readiness and strengthening the United States’ capacity to manage strategic deterrence, global strike, nuclear command and control, and operations across the electromagnetic spectrum.
To meet these demands, GDIT will draw on its digital engineering expertise to drive efficiency, lower costs and improve collaboration between mission partners. The company will also embed artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies across USSTRATCOM’s enterprise data systems to accelerate decision making while transitioning the command to a hybrid cloud environment for greater scalability and flexibility.
Given the escalating cyber threat landscape, the program also places a strong emphasis on security. GDIT will implement advanced cyber defence and zero trust solutions to protect critical networks and sensitive data.
“Modernising STRATCOM’s IT capabilities is critical to protecting our national security and maintaining our strategic deterrence edge,” said Brian Sheridan, GDIT’s senior vice president for defence. “We look forward to delivering a secure, agile and resilient network that enables our warfighters to be better connected, informed and ready.”
The award adds to GDIT’s growing portfolio of IT modernisation work across the US military. The company also provides digital services for the US Central Command and delivers technical and mission support for the US Special Operations Command.
