The Australian government has announced that it will be providing Ukraine with an extra $100 million in funding for military equipment.

The Australian government has announced that it will be providing Ukraine with an extra $100 million in funding for military equipment.

Announced on Friday morning, the Albanese government said this additional support will allow for Ukrainian forces to continue their defence against Russia’s “unjustified and unprovoked” attack.

Last December, Australia committed $50 million to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, which is a global initiative enabling nations to support the procurement of critical military equipment for Ukraine.

“What happens in Ukraine matters here in the Indo-Pacific, which is why it is so important for Australia to stay the course and continue to stand with Ukraine until they find peace on their terms,” Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles said.

“Australia was proud to be the first non-NATO contributor to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List, alongside New Zealand.

“Our ongoing contribution ensures that Ukraine is receiving the support it needs to make a tangible difference in its defence against Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression.”

Delivered in partnership with NATO, air defence and munitions were specified as some of the key equipment Ukraine requires to accelerate its defence.

Thus far, Australia has committed more than $1.8 billion to Ukraine and remains an active participant of the Coalition of the Willing, a multinational group advancing Ukraine’s peace interests.

Australian Defence Force personnel are additionally continuing efforts to train Ukrainian forces under Operation Kudu, which has been active for nearly three years.

The conflict has been ongoing since February 2022.
