American drone technology company Red Cat Holdings, which previously partnered with the Brisbane company on the Teal 2 Unmanned Aerial System, also recently announced their subsidiary Teal Drones had been selected by the US Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit and the US Army as one of two finalists competing in the Short Range Reconnaissance Tranche 2 Program of Record.

As a finalist, Teal was awarded $3 million of additional funding to support final prototype development and completion of remaining SRR milestones in development of a next-generation US Army small unmanned aerial system designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

“I’m excited to advance our collaboration with the US Army as we seek to provide the ideal solution for SRR,” said George Matus, Teal founder and Red Cat chief technology officer.

“We are grateful to have been selected as one of the two finalists in a program that began with more than 37 bidding vendors.

“We’re developing our next generation product from the ground up to meet the highly specific requirements of SRR, with the mission of providing warfighters superhuman capabilities.”
