Australian defence industry heavyweight Scott Basham has resigned from international defence and body armour company HighCom Group after more than two years as group chief executive officer.

HighCom Group, which includes HighCom (Australia) and subsidiary HighCom Armor Solutions (USA), has appointed Mark Stevens as executive chairman after the change-in-leadership announcement on 13 February.

The company operates two separate divisions of HighCom Armor for global military, law enforcement, and first responder personal protection ballistic equipment, as well as HighCom Technology which supplies Australian Defence and national security agencies with small uncrewed aerial systems and sensor payloads.

Basham had led the company since 2019 through transformation from its prior name of XTEK and a change in focus to US manufacturing, research, and design.

“After 2.5 years as group CEO of HighCom Group, I tendered my resignation to the board of directors,” Basham said in a public statement.

“It’s been a tremendous privilege to lead and work with such a great group of people over that time all around the world, and I will miss them all, as I will miss our great partners, suppliers, customers and industry colleagues.

“The work our team does is meaningful and important, and they will continue to grow and further transform the HighCom business to achieve its full potential, of that I’m certain.

“I’ll be taking a break with family and friends for a little while before reaching out to my network in due course to see what other exciting opportunities might be out there for me to throw myself into to help change, transform and grow another great company with loads of potential too.”

In the wake of the leadership change, HighCom announced company operations will be led by divisional heads including (former US Army Captain) HighCom Armour chief executive officer Sally Nordeen and HighCom Technology chief executive officer Vince Creagh, in addition to Mark Stevens assuming the groups’ leadership as executive chairman.

In addition, HighCom has commenced a company-wide review as it seeks to return the company to profitability and position it for future growth.

“I would like to personally thank Scott for his contribution to HighCom as group CEO, and I wish him all the best for the future,” according to chairman Mark Stevens.

“With the support of the board, I believe that the executive leadership team is highly competent, appropriately structured and capable of achieving the board’s immediate aim to right-size the cost base and deliver improved revenue and bottom line performance that will provide the foundation for the next phase of our growth.

“I am ready and committed to leading and supporting the company in meeting its goals.”
