A new chief executive officer has taken the reins of the Australian engineering services and technology solutions company, bringing over 20 years of defence industry experience.

He previously worked as managing director of Saab Australia and New Zealand and has also worked as senior vice-president/chief marketing officer of Saab AB where he led global business development.

Throughout his career, he has led businesses in Sweden, Singapore, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

He was appointed to the role in early October.

Rosenfield now looks to spearhead growth for the Australian company across defence, essential services, government, special missions, and commercial aerospace.

He looks forward to supporting a company that he has experience working alongside, Rosenfield said.

“I have a strong affinity and connection to Nova Systems after working closely with the team in the past.

“I have watched with interest as Nova Systems has grown its global footprint with offices based in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Singapore, and New Zealand as the company continues to extend its capability and services to the rest of the world.

“Nova Systems is a trusted and independent Australian-owned and operated company with a growing global footprint, making it well positioned to support the realisation of the critically important AUKUS partnership.

“In other markets, Nova’s life-saving search and rescue mission systems solutions and geospatial software solutions are significant areas of growth and opportunity.”

Nova Systems currently employs over 850 people.

In February, Nova was recognised as one of Graduate Australia’s Top 100 Employers.

The company’s two-year graduate program is designed to nurture and develop the next generation while also providing opportunities to gain exposure to a vast range of projects across the company’s defence, geospatial and essential services.

Nova Systems’ chief people officer, Shelley Willsmore, explained the importance of engaging bright young minds as a vital part of developing the next-generation workforce needed to fulfil the future needs of Australia’s defence industry.

“Fostering young talent is vital to ensure Australia has the highly skilled workforce needed to keep our nation safe and secure. Defence industry provides a wealth of opportunities for young people to develop careers in meaningful work and the demand for talent is as high as it’s ever been,” Willsmore explained.

This year’s graduates include an almost 50–50 gender split, made up primarily of engineers, with graduates located at sites across Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, and Newcastle, with 147 graduates joining the program since it began in 2016.
