Engineering and systems integration company SYPAQ Systems has announced close collaboration with the Australian government on delivering its Corvo X small uncrewed aerial system into the DEF 129 program.
The Corvo X, expected to be export ready in 2026, is envisioned to provide autonomous intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to the Australian Defence Force.
The military grade small uncrewed aerial system (SUAS) features thrust vectored vertical take-off and landing configuration and significant endurance in extreme weather conditions.
The lightweight, man-packable system, coupled with advanced autonomy, payload and encrypted mesh network capabilities, reduces the physical and cognitive load on the operator, enhancing mission safety, flexibility and performance.
“It is an incredible time to be developing a game-changing competitive advantage to our Australian service men and women, as well as having this technology available to our trusted international partners,” said Amanda Holt, SYPAQ CEO.
“In a world with continually changing capability demands, we are absolutely delighted to prove that Australian Defence Industry can support allied nations through AUKUS and other multilateral agreements.”
SYPAQ’s Corvo X SUAS utilises sovereign Australian technologies such as CODAN|DTC’s recently announced Sentry 6161 mesh radio, providing secure and reliable communications technology within the truly autonomous system.
“Collaborating with SYPAQ to deliver our Australian manufactured, combat proven, low latency communications technology is critical to our future export programs. DEF 129 is an exciting opportunity bringing this important sovereign communications capability into service,” stated Matt Jones when asked how CODAN|DTC is partnering with SYPAQ on this exciting journey.
Through delivery of the successful Precision Payload Delivery System (PPDS) “Cardboard Drone”, SYPAQ has forged a trusted relationship with AUSTRADE and the Defence Export Control Office which underpins confidence to enter the export market with Corvo X.
Notably Bellinger Systems, a SYPAQ-owned company, has proven delivery of key tactical datalink technologies from Leonardo DRS (USA), providing confidence that delivery of AUKUS capabilities can be delivered to all parties successfully.
SYPAQ is celebrating this collaboration success at the 2025 Avalon Airshow on Tuesday, 25 March by announcing that Corvo X will not only be delivered to the ADF under DEF 129 in 2025 but will also be export ready for international customers in 2026.
