Australian marine engineering company Halliday Engineering has announced the successful delivery of three new bow ramps for the Australian Defence Force’s landing helicopter dock landing craft.
The bow ramps, reportedly delivered on time and budget by Halliday, are designed to be fitted to the ADF’s amphibious mechanised landing craft and facilitate the delivery of troops and equipment onshore.
Halliday Engineering was engaged by Navantia Australia to manufacture the equipment and support frames in NSW, according to HE managing director Luke Halliday.
“The manufacture of bow ramps for the LHD landing craft is a true reflection of Halliday Engineering’s commitment to delivering high-quality, Australian-made solutions for the defence industry,” he said.
“This project highlights our advanced fabrication capabilities, skilled workforce, and ability to meet demanding timelines while maintaining the highest standards of precision and quality.
“We are proud to contribute to Australia’s sovereign defence capability and demonstrate the strength of local industry through projects of this scale and complexity.”
Halliday thanked the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group ACS Systems Program Office for their initiative to manufacture the bow ramps in Australia and supporting domestic manufacturing.
He also thanked Navantia Australia for facilitating the licences, enabling critical components to be locally fabricated, assembled and delivered to support the Royal Australian Navy’s LHD landing craft fleet.
A Navantia Australia spokesperson confirmed that, upon selection after a limited tender process, the company negotiated licences and facilitated the transfer of technology to enable Halliday to manufacture the ramps.
“The standard of work has been excellent and the customer is very satisfied. They have been great to work with from our perspective also,” the spokesperson said.
