Babcock has used its presence at the Avalon Airshow to promote export opportunities for Australian defence suppliers and showcase the nation’s sovereign capabilities on a global stage, as part of its ongoing involvement in the Commonwealth’s Global Supply Chain Program.

Over the four-day event, Babcock engaged with close to 200 suppliers, hosting international delegations and meeting with a broad range of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to foster partnerships and explore new opportunities.

The Global Supply Chain Program (GSCP) is a federal government initiative that helps local suppliers tap into global markets by connecting them with the international supply chains of Australia’s leading defence primes. Babcock is one of 13 primes selected to take part in this program, which aims to strengthen the nation’s defence industry and diversify income streams for Australian businesses.

“Avalon Airshow was the ideal platform to connect with industry leaders, government representatives, key partners and, of course, suppliers – both new and established – to explore current capability requirements and enhance resilience in Australia’s industrial base,” said Kellie Jenkins, Babcock Australasia’s Global Supply Chain Program manager.

“It offered a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, deepen relationships, and ensure our collective efforts are aligned with Australia’s defence and aviation priorities.”

Among the key topics discussed was the future manufacturing potential of Australian suppliers, particularly in the area of electronics.

Babcock also took part in the “Meet the Primes” pitch event hosted by the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, held strategic briefings with trade envoys to identify international pathways, and reconnected with key suppliers first engaged at previous trade shows including Land Forces.

The GSCP team will now progress discussions with a select group of suppliers regarding export opportunities across Babcock’s global network.

“The connections we’ve made here reinforce Babcock’s critical role in building local industry capability and helping to put Australian technology and services on the world stage,” Jenkins said. “We’re excited about what lies ahead and the potential these conversations have unlocked.”
