Engineering and construction company Laing O’Rourke has announced two new appointments to support its defence and infrastructure operations.
Glen Billington has been appointed to the role of general manager defence, while Rod Aves has been selected for the role of program director – AUKUS.
“The Australian government Department of Defence is one of our long-standing priority clients. These new appointments reinforce our commitment to serving the objectives and requirements of the Defence sector,” said Mark Dimmock, managing director in Australia.
Billington has previously served with a distinguished career with the Australian Army before transitioning to the Army Reserve. In addition, he has completed a range of appointments relating to the planning and delivery of Defence facilities, including a secondment to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
“Glen’s experience in the policy, planning and delivery of capital works projects spans the UK, Middle East, Pacific Region and Australia. He will ensure Laing O’Rourke continues to align capacity and capability with the requirements of the Defence sector,” said a public statement published by Laing O’Rourke.
Aves has joined the company from Babcock International Group in the UK.
“Rod has an extensive global nuclear new build background, having worked on nuclear project delivery across many technologies and continents. He has also held nuclear licensee appointments in both civil and defence sectors,” the statement said.
“Most recently, he led infrastructure delivery at Devonport Royal Dockyard to enable full life cycle maintenance of the UK Astute Class submarines.”
