Australian veteran-owned company EPE has announced a strategic partnership with American robotics company Boston Dynamics to bring the “Spot” public safety variant to Australia, New Zealand and the Indo-Pacific region.
The “Spot” dynamic sensing platform is designed for routine operations, site health or potentially hazardous situations conducted by defence forces, law enforcement and other government agencies.
Spot serves as a critical asset, reducing risk by being the first to enter and assess potentially dangerous scenarios, assisting incident commanders, providing rapid situation awareness, inform decision making and de-escalating hazardous situations.
“This collaboration brings the advanced public safety Spot package to defence, public safety and first responder agencies in Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia,” a public statement from EPE said.
“EPE and Boston Dynamics share a common mission – to protect and empower humans operating in hazardous environments.
“With over 450 robots and thousands of sensors already deployed in defence and public safety sectors, EPE continues to lead the way in shaping the future of robotics and autonomous systems in Australia.”
The robotic platform is equipped with a self-righting feature and allows operators to issue simple commands to autonomously navigate complex environments.
