Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Australian defence company DefendTex.

The agreement will reportedly explore collaborative opportunities in platform-launched drones, munitions safety and novel unmanned vehicle concept of operations for Singapore’s defence needs.

“We look forward to working with innovative tech collaborators such as DefendTex to bring fresh perspectives and enhance the development of next-generation unmanned systems for defence applications,” DSTA director land systems Alex Lee said.

“As security challenges continue to evolve, the ability to adapt quickly, experiment with robotics and autonomy, and pivot when needed will be critical in delivering impactful solutions.

“This collaboration underscores DSTA’s commitment to push the boundaries in these tech domains for the SAF to stay ahead.”

The partnership is understood to leverage DefendTex’s expertise in rapid prototyping and development of next-generation autonomous systems and smart weapons to enhance the operational capabilities for the Singapore Armed Forces.

“DSTA is a valued partner of DefendTex. Together, the two organisations will advance the fields of platform-launched drones, UxV concepts and innovation as well as munition safety with the common goal of delivering new capabilities to the SAF,” DefendTex chief executive officer Travis Reddy said.

“DSTA’s innovative spirit and willingness to adopt new technologies is complemented by DefendTex’s track record of rapid design, development and manufacture of market-leading autonomous systems.”
