Matthew Gibson has been appointed as the new chief executive at the Australian Missile Corporation (AMC), starting 1 July this year.

Gibson, currently AMC general manager – strategy, succeeds Lee Goddard, who has decided to step down after serving as the AMC’s founding CEO since April 2022 when the company was selected as a partner to the Australian government’s Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Enterprise (GWEO).

“I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the AMC into its next phase. The initial phase built a tremendously capable organisation that is now poised to support the delivery of GWEO objectives both within Defence and industry,” Gibson said.

“It is an important endeavour and has the potential to change the Australian GWEO industrial landscape.”

Gibson came to the NIOA Group in 2018 and has background experience including three decades of experience in armaments engineering within the RAAF and private sectors. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in explosive ordnance engineering.

The AMC is an independently operated company within the Australian-owned NIOA Group.

NIOA Group CEO Rob Nioa said the AMC had grown and developed as a key industry partner in accelerating Australian GWEO capability under Goddard’s leadership.

“Lee’s dedication and vision has laid a strong foundation for the AMC’s success and future growth,” he said.

“I’m pleased that Lee will continue to contribute to the company as a director to build on the momentum.

“Matt is well placed to lead the AMC through the next phase of growth, having held leadership roles within NIOA and the AMC.

“As the AMC enters this next chapter, I have every confidence that he is the right person to take the company forward.”

Goddard will continue to contribute to the AMC as a company director in a part-time capacity.

“Now is the time to match the urgency and challenges with action in ensuring that the ADF end users have the most advanced guided weapons and munitions in an ever-increasing uncertain environment,” he said.

“It has been a privilege to lead the Australian Missile Corporation team who are committed to supporting the GWEO Group and the wider ADF.”
