Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Michael J Twining has been appointed as the new sales director for the US Air Force at Sydney counter-drone developer DroneShield.

Lt Col (Ret’d) Twining is expected to inform the company’s efforts regarding advance air base defence through counter-uncrewed aerial system solutions.

Twining brings more than 24 years of distinguished service in the US Air Force. Most recently, he served as the commander of the 86th Security Forces Squadron at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, leading more than 500 personnel and overseeing the defence of critical Department of Defense and NATO assets.

In addition, he holds a bachelor of arts in justice studies from Arizona State University and a master of arts in organisational leadership from American Military University.

His experience spans across various high-level positions in security forces, operations and leadership within both the US and international military contexts, according to DroneShield chief executive officer - USA Matt McCrann.

“We are excited to welcome Lt Col Twining to our team. His military experience and strategic leadership will be instrumental for our growth,” he said.

“His extensive experience in airbase defence, anti-terrorism operations and security forces will be invaluable as we continue to provide advanced counter-UxS solutions for the protection of personnel and critical assets.”

Twining previously enlisted in the Air Force in 1997 and earned his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Arizona State University in 2005.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated excellence in leadership and operations, including his service as an air adviser to the Afghan National Army Air Corps and as the Chief of Security Forces Inspections for Pacific Air Forces.

He also served as the associate chair for the Installation Support Panel at the Pentagon, where he helped advocate for $19 billion in resources to sustain and protect Air Force installations globally.

“I’m delighted to join DroneShield at such a pivotal time, when counter-drone technology has never been more critical in protecting our Airmen and Guardians worldwide,” Twining said.

Earlier this week, DroneShield also welcomed a visit from Ardi Stoios-Braken, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Australia.

The visit reportedly related to discussion of DroneShield’s latest expansion into the European market and included a briefing on the company’s counter-drone capabilities and a walkthrough of the Sydney facility.

Underpinning this European expansion, DroneShield’s kit was recently used to defend the airspace during the latest NATO Summit at The Hague.
