The former Luerssen Australia head of strategy and government relations, Matt Moran, has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Master Builders Western Australia.

Master Builders Western Australia (MBAWA) announced the appointment earlier this week that Moran would succeed outgoing CEO Matthew Pollock, who will be heading east to helm Master Builders NSW.

Moran, an inaugural executive director of Defence West and Australian Army Afghanistan veteran, had previously worked with Luerssen Australia and was preselected as the Liberal Party candidate for the federal seat of Bullwinkel.

He also acted as a government policy adviser for the Minister for Defence Industry in 2016 and senior adviser to the Minister for Defence in 2018.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the CEO of Master Builders Western Australia, and I am excited to lead a high-performing team that is committed to helping our members,” he said.

“MBAWA has a clear strategy to build a better industry, and it’s incredibly important that we develop our workforce to help achieve this.

“If MBAWA succeeds, so too does the industry and our community. Successful businesses lead to more homes being built and more people working in well-paid, rewarding jobs.

“This is the future that I am eager to be a part of building.”

MBAWA president Michael Van Dongen said with strong experience working with both sides of government and a strong background and understanding of membership associations, Moran is very well placed to lead the MBAWA team through the delivery of the remaining phases of their current strategic plan.

“Matt is very well placed to lead our association through its next phase of growth. He has an in-depth understanding of the challenges of our industry and has shown with his experience to be an effective leader and advocate to government,” Van Dongen said.

“The construction industry will play a pivotal role in supporting WA’s fast-growing economy and population. With Matt at the helm we have a strong leader to support our members as they support the WA economy.”

Moran will commence as CEO on 11 August 2025, with Pollock staying on in an advisory role until the beginning of September.

In relation to the outgoing CEO, Van Dongen said on behalf of Master Builders WA, they wish to extend their thanks to Matthew Pollock for his contributions over the last two years.

“Matt has played a critical role in reshaping MBAWA for the future and for that we are incredibly grateful. We are pleased he will remain in the wider Master Builders family, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
