Defence tech innovator KeyOptions has secured a contract for the development and delivery of advanced counter-uncrewed aerial vehicle for the Australian Defence Force.

Defence tech innovator KeyOptions has secured a contract for the development and delivery of advanced counter-uncrewed aerial vehicle for the Australian Defence Force.

Under the contract, KeyOptions will deliver a baseline counter-uncrewed aerial vehicle capability by December this year under Project LAND 156.

The contract is expected to bolster Australia’s national security and advance sovereign defence capabilities by delivering cutting-edge solutions to protect Australian Defence Force personnel and assets.

“We are honoured to be entrusted with this vital role in Project LAND 156,” KeyOptions chief executive officer Rick Wylie said.

“This contract is a testament to our team’s dedication to delivering world-class defence solutions and our commitment to assist with the safeguarding of Australia’s armed forces.

“By leveraging our cutting-edge technology and deep industry and sector knowledge, we will provide the ADF with robust counter-drone capabilities to address both current and future threats.”

The contract, part of a $16.9 million initial wave of awards announced by the federal government, includes KeyOptions among a select group of Australian and international firms tasked with rapidly deploying counter-drone technologies.

KeyOptions’ contribution will focus on advanced detection and neutralisation systems, including sensor capabilities and effectors, ensuring comprehensive protection against small UAS threats.

The company’s solutions are designed to counter the rapid evolution of drone technology, as demonstrated in modern conflicts such as in Ukraine, where small drones have proven highly effective.

“The delivery of cutting-edge counter-drone technology shows the increasing speed at which Defence and industry are able to deliver new capabilities to the ADF,” Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy said.

“Australian industry is critical to delivering this technology, and they are demonstrating world-leading innovation while creating Australian jobs.”

The company’s work under LAND 156 is expected to drive technological development, aligning with the government’s vision to enhance promotion of SME’s expertise.

The company looks forward to collaborating with the Department of Defence and industry partners to ensure the success of this part of Project LAND 156 and to protect Australia’s national security in an increasingly complex global environment.
