Canadian marine engineering company Cellula Robotics has confirmed the sale of a Guardian autonomous underwater vehicle to an undisclosed defence customer.
The commercial off-the-shelf autonomous underwater vehicle is reportedly designed for ultra long-range missions of up to 5,000-kilometre missions.
The 12 metre-long, 1.7-metre wide system, the largest of the company’s AUV products, can reportedly release payload and off-platform assets with precision through and enabled by hovering and station-keeping capability.
“We are honoured to be chosen to deliver a Guardian AUV system,” Cellula Robotics’ Richard Mills said.
“Capable of long-range survey, surveillance and payload delivery missions, Guardian represents the next frontier in over-the-horizon underwater autonomy, not just gathering data but delivering capability.”
The Guardian system can be deployed from ship or shore and is easily transported in a standard 40-foot shipping container.
