Arkeus, an Australian provider of AI-powered autonomous optical sensing systems, has successfully integrated and tested its Surface Hyperspectral Optical Radar (HSOR) system on Australian developer Ocius’ Bluebottle uncrewed surface vessel (USV).

Acting as a major milestone towards Australian sovereign defence capabilities, the CEO of Arkeus, Simon Olsen, said this is an “important collaboration” as Australia continues to grow its defence industry in AUKUS-aligned deals.

“Integrating our Surface HSOR with Bluebottle not only reinforces our leadership in maritime surveillance but also demonstrates the ability for our two companies to deliver greater range and coverage in the most challenging operational environments in which our customers operate.

“Together, we’re delivering technology that extends operational reach, enhances safety and underpins Australia’s strategic capability at sea,” he said.

The integration of Arkeus’ advanced optical radar technology will enhance the USV by providing heightened surface and near-surface vessel, personnel and other physical detection capabilities from a long range in complex environments. As well as their AI-based spectral sensing identification and tracking technology, potential threats can be identified swiftly in operational environments.

This collaboration signifies the strong advancements in Australia’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations and technology that allow for risk-free activity for Australian Defence Force personnel.

Ocius CEO Robert Dane said the “integration of Arkeus’s cutting-edge surface hyperspectral optical radar with our Bluebottle platform represents a significant step forward in autonomous maritime surveillance”.

“It also underscores our commitment to leveraging sovereign technologies to deliver unmatched operational capabilities.”
