Global IT and business consulting firm CGI has announced the opening of a new office in Canberra.
Reflecting CGI’s continued commitment to its Australian clients, Tony Nicholls, director of space, defence and intelligence at CGI Australia, said the opening is an “important milestone in our growth in Australia”.
“It ensures we are right beside our clients in the capital, helping them achieve critical outcomes, co-develop solutions, and leverage CGI’s global expertise in a truly local context.”
“Our systems accelerate decision making, strengthen resilience and enable interoperability across clients in the space, defence and intelligence domains,” Nicholls added.
CGI supports Australia’s defence industry through a range of secure, mission-critical IT systems that integrate across air, land, sea, cyber and space environments. They assist in building and operating defence platforms, offer cloud migration, secure hosting and systems integration with strong cyber security. Additionally, CGI delivers secure collaboration tools, supports defence asset management and helps digitise critical processes to improve readiness and efficiency.
The new office, which will be fully operational by mid-November 2026, is designed to serve as a dedicated hub to showcase the company’s global capabilities while ensuring delivery through sovereign systems tailored for the Australian government’s defence and industry needs. The office will also aid in fostering the partnership between clients and CGI to ensure better outcomes for all parties.
Already operating in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart, the addition of Canberra solidifies CGI’s presence in Australia’s national defence industry sector. CGI said the Canberra investment underscores its long-term commitment to supporting Australian communities, industries and government agencies as they navigate the changing defence and security environment.
