The Australian government has signed a new $85 million five-year contract with Australian healthcare provider Healius to deliver pathology services to Australian Defence Force personnel.
Healius has recently secured the Australian Department of Defence contract for supply of services to the Australian Defence Force, according to an ASX statement on 1 December.
Healius is expected to use its national pathology network to deliver outpatient pathology services. The services will include modern digital solutions like e-referrals, online bookings, and a doctors’ results portal, according to the company.
Dedicated pathology collection staff will operate within ADF health centres across Australia. The contract is set to begin on 1 December 2025 for an initial five-year period.
“We are honoured to have been awarded this important contract with the Department of Defence, which will support the health needs of all ADF personnel,” Healius chief executive officer Paul Anderson said.
“The Department of Defence were impressed with our extensive modern digital solutions, which are designed to improve services for patients and doctors.
“We are delighted to be able to leverage these solutions for the benefit of the ADF.
“In addition to dedicated collection staff on-site at ADF health centres, our national footprint of laboratories and collection centres will provide the ADF with greater pathology access across the country, including the largest pathology collection centre network across regional, rural and Indigenous communities.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with the Department of Defence to deliver timely, consistent, quality pathology services to their personnel.”
Revenue from the initial contract period is expected to be approximately $60 million. The contract includes an option to extend for up to five additional years.
