Twelve New Zealand SMEs enter global supply chains through new signing with Babcock.
Babcock Australasia has announced the signing of 12 New Zealand small and medium enterprises (SMEs) into global supply chains to aid existing and future defence work across Australia/NZ and the United Kingdom.
“SMEs play a critical role in Babcock’s supply chain and global business,” said Andrew Cridland, Babcock Australasia CEO.
“Babcock’s new partnership with 12 New Zealand SMEs presents a fantastic opportunity for these companies to make a real difference both locally and globally.”
Half of the companies now signed to the Babcock supply chain formalised their agreements in early November at the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition in Sydney. Babcock credits the recent Supplier Day, hosted in conjunction with the New Zealand Defence Industry Association, which provided an opportunity for SMEs to showcase their businesses to Babcock, one of the major defence industry players worldwide.
“Not only will it deliver economic growth for local communities and support the development of local jobs, it will also strengthen the local supplier base in New Zealand,” Cridland added.
Software development SME Company-X, one of the companies now signed with Babcock, said this is a clear display of the growing global need for innovation from a range of global industries.
“Our partnership with Babcock not only reflects growing international demand for New Zealand innovation but recognises the depth of experience that already exists within our shores and the value of partnering with local organisations that can continue to deliver at a world-class level,” said Lance Bauerfeind, Company-X head of training and simulation.
Babcock hopes these new partnerships will continue to feed into NZ’s national defence economy, with Cridland noting that 91 per cent of expenditure into NZ is being reinvested back into the local economy through the provision of services.
“In the last two years alone, more than $220 million of activity has been directed into our 600-company strong local SME network.”
