UK defence technology company Rotron Aerospace and LIG Nex1, the Republic of Korea’s leading defence corporation that specialises in advanced weapon systems and unmanned platforms, have signed a new memorandum of understanding.

Signed at Rotron’s headquarters in Dorset, the MOU seeks to propel strategic collaborations on the development and integration of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), with a specific focus on the medium UAV common platform (MUCP) program, alongside a range of international initiatives that can be supported by Rotron’s aviation platforms.

“Rotron is proud to partner with LIG Nex1, a company whose reputation for defence excellence is known worldwide,” said Gilo Cardozo, chief technology officer and founder of Rotron.

“This agreement reflects our commitment to delivering high-performance propulsion and aviation systems that enhance the capability, reliability and operational reach of next-generation unmanned platforms.”

The MUCP has a primary goal of developing partnerships to develop mutually beneficial, next-generation UAS and drones. The program will allow global partners to work in tandem in supporting enhanced surveillance, reconnaissance and defensive needs with UAS, a point echoed by LIG Nex1’s aerospace and drone vice president, Yoon Kwan-seob.

“By combining our experience in integrated system development with Rotron’s leading propulsion technologies, we aim to advance the medium UAV common platform and expand opportunities for both domestic Republic of Korea programs and international exports.”

The MOU will be in effect for 2032 and see the two companies working together to strengthen the UK and RoK’s sovereign and allied capabilities in UAS.
