Rheinmetall UK has been awarded a contract by NATO Support and Procurement Agency to supply their Trailblazer driver vision and local situation awareness system to the UK Ministry of Defence.
Rheinmetall’s Trailblazer system will be applied to the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) M270 A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) platform as an advanced upgrade. Early prototypes will begin delivery in 2026, with the bulk of manufacturing and production set to occur later in the year in the UK.
The upgrade will equip the M270 A2 MLRS with advanced day, thermal and fusion imaging to support 24/7 manoeuvres in complex environments for drivers and commanders.
The system will see drivers provided with side and rear vision sensors, as well as installation kits with hardened cabling, switches and protective covers to increase safety and survivability of crews.
“This latest contract further solidifies Trailblazer as the driver vision system of choice for the UK Army. That choice is built on our reputation for delivery of innovative and reliable technologies into the UK MOD,” said Richard Streeter, managing director of Rheinmetall Electronics UK.
“We are delighted to be able to upgrade the UK’s latest MLRS A2 platforms with the very best vehicle vision systems.”
Trailblazer’s low-latency imaging extends visibility to improve navigation, obstacle avoidance and threat detection in poor weather and low-light conditions.
The M270 A2 MLRS will be the 17th military platform to use the Trailblazer across seven countries worldwide.
