To ring in the new year, L3Harris has announced a reshaping of its business structure, seeing four existing segments being cut down to three.

The company said in a statement that these changes represent L3Harris’ move towards “more closely aligning its portfolio with the future of warfare”.

“This change thoughtfully organises common business models, technical capabilities and investment priorities,” L3Harris chairman and CEO Christopher Kubasik said.

The space and missions systems segment will be led by Sam Mehta and continue to work with satellite technology and capabilities across maritime, air, and “special missions” in civilian and government defence initiatives.

Jon Rambeau will lead the communications and spectrum dominance sect, having the role of combining all existing capabilities into “resilient communications and electronic warfare”.

Finally, the mission solutions segment, led by Ken Bedingfield, who will continue his role as senior vice president and chief financial officer, will integrate the company’s multitude of advanced missile and hypersonic technologies into a streamlined department.

Additional details are set to be provided later this month.

Kubasik added that this strategic move works in line with the US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s freshly announced “Arsenal of Freedom” initiative.

“Enabling the arsenal of freedom requires action, and we’re now best poised to deliver the speed, technology and commerciality required by our most important customer – the warfighter,” Kubasik said.

This initiative aims to “accelerate the fielding of capabilities and focus on results” for the United States’ defence industrial base.

“As you know, everyone in this room knows, building the arsenal of freedom will not happen overnight and it will require considerable investment and resolve to expand the department’s buying power,” Secretary Hegseth said in a speech last November.

“The War Department will be ready when the time comes. We will have and we will be the arsenal for freedom. The world is watching.

“Our adversaries are watching; our allies are watching. We must show them that America is back stronger and more determined than ever to defend our interests and uphold freedom.”
