Defence and aerospace company Babcock Australasia has launched a national Defence Industry Engagement Series aimed at helping small and medium enterprises (SME) break into the defence sector and strengthening Australia’s sovereign industrial capability.

The series begins in Brisbane on 4 February before moving to Townsville on 5 February, Adelaide on 9 February and Henderson in Western Australia on 5 March.

Led and hosted by Babcock, the program is designed to connect local suppliers with current and emerging Defence opportunities, while providing practical guidance on how Australian SMEs can enter and operate within defence supply chains.

Babcock Australasia chief executive officer Andrew Cridland said the company’s contracting approach places Australian industry at the centre of Defence delivery.

“Babcock’s inclusive contracting model ensures Australian industry plays a central role in delivering world-class solutions to the ADF,” Cridland said. “Our Defence Industry Engagement Series will give SMEs a clear understanding of how they can contribute to projects of national significance over the years and decades ahead.”

Each session will bring together representatives from Babcock, government and key industry stakeholders to share insights into upcoming Defence programs, supply chain requirements, export pathways and the support available to businesses entering the defence market for the first time.

Cridland said supporting SMEs was critical to building resilient domestic supply chains and maintaining sovereign capability.

“We work closely with around 700 Australian organisations across the country, leveraging their expertise to meet ADF requirements,” he said. “At the same time, we support their ability to innovate, grow and create jobs in local communities.”

The Adelaide session will focus on Babcock’s Global Supply Chain Program and the role of South Australian industry in supporting both national and international defence programs. Sessions in Queensland and Western Australia will highlight local opportunities in those states, including AUKUS-related work and projects across the maritime, aviation and land domains.

Across all locations, attendees will gain practical information on how to join Babcock’s supply chain, meet defence industry supplier standards and access export opportunities through the company’s Global Supply Chain Program. The events will also provide networking opportunities with key industry and government stakeholders.
