Michael Powell has been appointed as the chief operating officer of DroneShield.

DroneShield has announced the appointment of Michael Powell as the new chief operating officer (COO) for the counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) company.

Powell has nearly three decades of experience within the defence and aerospace industry, notably with Thales Australia where he served in multiple roles, including director of operations and engineering and general manager of secure communications and information systems.

“Michael is a proven operator with deep experience delivering complex programs at global scale,” said DroneShield chief executive Oleg Vornik.

“As demand for counter-UAS capability continues to accelerate, his leadership will be instrumental in ensuring DroneShield scales with discipline, resilience and a relentless focus on customer outcomes.”

As COO, Powell will stand in a critical role, focusing on scaling global operations, strengthening and enhancing delivery capabilities, and ensuring key sectors of the business are supporting the company’s goals.

In a press statement, DroneShield reiterated that his appointment reflects the company’s “focus on operational excellence as counter-UAS capability … within national security, public safety and critical-infrastructure protection frameworks worldwide”.

The appointment comes as DroneShield continues a “period of accelerated expansion” following larger scale activity in Europe and the US and increased demand from Defence and government.

Powell holds a bachelor of engineering and is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers.
