BMT has announced the opening of its Digital Innovation and Simulation Centre in Fareham, United Kingdom.
The Digital Innovation and Simulation Centre (DISC) seeks to strengthen the collaborative nature of BMT’s work by transforming the decision-making process for complex maritime environments.
Building on BMT’s REMBRANDT navigation simulator, the facility will use this technology to support innovative measures in autonomy, cyber resilience and incident response.
“DISC is a bold step forward in our digital‑first journey,” said Sarah Kenny, chief executive of BMT.
DISC will offer a range of features for customers to tangibly utilise, including a Full Mission Bridge for defence vessels, 360‑degree pod simulators, small‑vessel simulators, a remote operations centre and a scenario control room to name a few.
“By combining immersive simulation, autonomous systems assurance and advanced visualisation in a single, secure environment, we’re giving our customers a digital canvas where they can explore options, test complex scenarios and make faster, better‑informed decisions – all while reducing risk and time to market,” Kenny said.
BMT’s investment in DISC is additionally underpinning their UK/Europe regional growth strategy, which focuses largely on enhancing their customers’ physical experience and engagement with their products.
The consultancy agency also hopes to strengthen their role in supporting the development of autonomous maritime systems in the United Kingdom.
BMT expects that DISC is also expected to play a strong role within international markets through their advanced facilities such as their simulation assurance for autonomous vessels, digital ports, operations training and ship design de-risking.
“For us, DISC isn’t just a simulator suite, it is a launchpad for innovation,” said BMT’s head of innovation and research, Jake Rigby.
“It brings together our proprietary REMBRANDT and ENGAGE technologies and our synthetic assurance environments in one place, so defence and commercial partners can build trusted autonomous and digital solutions.”
