BAE Systems has announced a major milestone in the delivery of the APKWS laser-guidance kit.

BAE Systems has announced a major milestone in the delivery of the APKWS laser-guidance kit.

BAE Systems revealed that they have surpassed 100,000 deliveries of their laser APKWS laser-guidance kit that is commonly used in the US armed forces.

“With over a decade of proven performance, reliability and accuracy, APKWS guidance kits have supported precision-strike missions worldwide,” said Neeta Jayaraman, director of precision guidance and sensing solutions.

“This milestone demonstrates our ability to deliver innovative technology rapidly and at scale.”

The kit offers a range of features to quell potential threats and has proven to be a cost-effective choice for armed forces in counter-unmanned aircraft systems.

Specific features of this kit allow an unguided 2.75-inch rocket to transform into precision-guided munitions, improving overall accuracy.

The system has the capability to be deployed from multiple different platforms, such as rotary and fixed wing aircraft, unmanned aerial systems, ground platforms and maritime vessels.

The APKWS kits are being used by the US Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines, and are also available to allies through foreign defence sales.

In December last year, BAE Systems was awarded a $1.7 billion contract with the US Navy to continue production of the kits for another five-year period.

“With our new production contract, we’re poised to support evolving mission needs for years to come,” Jayaraman said.
