Thales has launched a new multi-domain integrated air and missile defence system, SkyDefender.
SkyDefender, Thales’ freshly introduced multi-layer defence system, has been launched to respond to the increasingly “complex, saturating and unpredictable” nature of attacks.
The system, which can be used against air, land, sea and space threats, is designed with short, medium and long-range capabilities, making it a strategic system that can offer protection for thousands of kilometres.
Against short-range threats, a protection bubble against attacks from drones can be established, whereas medium and long-range attacks will see SkyDefender use its SAMP-T NG, SMART-L MM, and UHF radars to protect from attacks up to 5,000 kilometres away.
“Thales is proud to contribute to the sovereignty of our nations with SkyDefender, the global air and missile defence dome based on our latest advanced technologies, from counter-drone protection to early warning capacities,” said Hervé Dammann, executive vice-president of land and air systems.
“With SkyDefender Thales provides a combat-proven system, easy to integrate and available today, confirming our position as a long-term trusted partner for the armed forces.”
SkyDefender will also incorporate Thales’ “cortAIx” features, which they said will be a strategic and useful defence against the growing threat of cyber attacks.
The system is set to provide space defence alerts also, utilising Thales Alenia Space systems to offer early warnings from stationary orbits using satellites that have built-in radar detections sensors.
SkyDefender is built upon an open model, making it easy to integrate with existing defence systems.
Thales’ SkyView command and control system will also be integrated into all of SkyDefender’s features.
