L3Harris has signed a fresh memorandum of understanding with RFTEQ to advance the work towards sovereign electronic warfare capabilities.

L3Harris has signed a fresh memorandum of understanding with RFTEQ to advance the work towards sovereign electronic warfare capabilities.

The MOU, signed earlier this week, seeks to expand Australia’s growing interest and work towards developing independent electronic warfare (EW) methods in the country.

Supporting the Australian Defence Organisation, both companies said they are committed to “collectively” contributing their expertise.

“L3Harris has a shared commitment with the Commonwealth to develop a resilient and competitive Australian defence industry in support of priority capabilities and the modernisation of the Australian Defence Force to address contemporary EW threats,” said Ian Charles, managing director of Global Spectrum Superiority at L3Harris.

“Collaborating with Australian industry strengthens sovereign capability.

“Our collaboration with RFTEQ and the complementary capabilities between our two companies enhance our ability to deliver mission-critical solutions.”

As a global leader in EW technology, L3Harris said its experience in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance incorporated with their EW design methods will create a solid base for the expansion of Australia’s EW approaches.

In 2024, the company established the Centre of Excellence for Electronic Warfare in Brisbane to aid in these goals.

RFTEQ CEO David Kinnaird said the company’s method of using radiofrequency technology in conjunction with EW is “complementary” to L3Harris’ work.

“RFTEQ specialises in advanced radiofrequency engineering for defence applications, and this collaboration brings together complementary Australian expertise in electronic warfare,” Kinnaird said.

“By working with L3Harris, we are strengthening local industry capability and supporting the development of innovative solutions aligned with Australia’s evolving mission needs.”
