The Ukrainian government has stepped up engagement with Australian defence industry and government during a recent Ukrainian Parliamentary delegation tour.
Ukrainian representatives and the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia Vasyl Myroshnychenko reportedly held discussions and site visits with crucial defence firms including armaments company NIOA Group in Brisbane and manufacturing company ECLIPS Engineering in Canberra.
The delegation reportedly tested sniper rifles produced by Barrett and inspected a Module Heavy Gun Ammunition system designed as a modular solution for 155mm artillery developed by ECLIPS.
“Our discussions (with NIOA) focused on the growing importance of scaling up ammunition production to meet both Ukraine’s immediate battlefield needs and Australia’s long-term defence requirements,” according to Ambassador Myroshnychenko.
“In today’s strategic environment, building sovereign industrial capability is no longer optional; it is essential.
“There are clear opportunities for Australia to expand production across key categories of ammunition, strengthen supply chains, and deepen cooperation with trusted partners. Ukraine’s experience underscores the importance of sustained, high-volume production and rapid innovation in defence manufacturing.”
In addition, coinciding with the tour, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted letters of credence from the newly appointed Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine, Geoff Bowan.
Both officials reportedly discussed the importance of continued Australian assistance including defence support and NATO initative Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List programme.
