Babcock’s new series shedding light on defence industry programs has kicked off with major success across critical strategic areas across the country.

Babcock’s Defence Industry Engagement Series saw over 500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) attend a range of strategy-building sessions across the country, with the hopes of “driving innovation” and strengthening Australia’s “sovereign defence capability”.

Babcock has maintained a strong commitment to boosting SMEs across Australia, currently partnering with 700 national businesses and spending over $90 million of the company’s procurement expenditure on the SME supply chain.

“SMEs are essential to building a resilient defence industry and by empowering local businesses we are strengthening the nation’s ability to deliver sovereign capability – now and into the future,” said Leah Grantham, Babcock Australasia’s acting chief executive officer.

The Defence Industry Engagement Series seeks to provide pathways for SMEs across Brisbane, Townsville, Adelaide and Henderson, offering information on upcoming Defence programs, supply chain demands and potential export pathways.

The series also set out to support SMEs seeking to break into the sector, with a focus on lowering barriers to entry and strengthening industry capability.

Each session spotlighted state-specific opportunities, alongside access to international markets through Babcock’s Global Supply Chain Program.

In Henderson, for example, representatives from the Western Australian government outlined current and future defence prospects, while local SMEs FUZE and Franmarine shared firsthand accounts of working with Babcock as strategically important partners, providing practical insight into navigating the defence supply chain.

“The success of Babcock’s national Defence Industry Engagement Series has highlighted how much capability exists in Australia and how powerful it can be when we connect innovative suppliers with the opportunities, partners and support they need to grow and thrive,” Grantham added.
