Defence tech company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) is accelerating its push into the counter-drone market through the acquisition of European command-and-control specialist MARSS.
The contract, announced on Friday, said EOS will now hold ownership of MARSS’ AI-enabled NiDAR platform, a software designed to detect, identify and coordinate responses to drones in real time.
EOS said the transaction will shift the company from being primarily a supplier of sensors and weapon components into a fully integrated counter-drone systems provider.
“In the Middle East, the NiDAR system has successfully protected critical targets infrastructure,” EOS said in a statement.
“Multiple attacks with Shahed drones and missiles have been defeated and customers have expressed deep satisfaction. The NiDAR system is now battle proven.”
The acquisition comes as governments and military operators increase spending on drone defence amid growing security concerns globally.
“EOS is pleased to advise that MARSS has recently entered into a £85 million (~AU$160 million) contract with an existing Middle Eastern military customer,” EOS added.
“Due to the performance of MARSS’ NiDAR system in an active conflict zone, MARSS is seeing accelerated customer enquiry and interest in its integrated and turnkey counter-drone
capabilities.”
EOS plans to integrate MARSS’ NiDAR technology into its existing remote weapon systems, creating networked defence platforms designed to counter coordinated drone attacks.
The company said the combined offering will strengthen its ability to compete for larger military and infrastructure contracts.
