An Australian virtual reality (VR) defence training company has signed a deal for the Swedish Armed Forces.
Operator XR has landed its first European contract and is set to supply an end user within the Swedish Armed Forces with their OP-2 VR training system.
The contract, valued at $450,000 will see the system being integrated into tactical training systems as well as software licensing, integrated hardware and maintenance services being included.
The OP-2 VR system is used across military and private security companies to train in tactical, use of force training environments to replicate real-world scenarios.
“Sweden is one of NATO’s most capable and fastest-growing defence markets and entering it through a customer within the Swedish Armed Forces reinforces our position as a global supplier of mission-critical immersive training capability,” said Ben Smith, chief commercial officer of Operator XR’s parent company, xReality Group.
Swedish in-country distribution partner Promoteq will deliver the system to local industry integrations.
“We selected Operator XR as our partner for advanced VR tactical training because the OP-2 platform delivers a level of realism, portability and operational fidelity that meets the demanding standards of Swedish defence end users,” said Anders Hedqvist, business area manager for special integrations at Promoteq.
“Bringing this capability into service in Sweden is an important first step, and we are seeing strong interest from across the Swedish and Nordic defence and law enforcement community in the same capability.”
The deal comes as Sweden increases its national defence budget by 18 per cent, with a gross domestic product target of 3.5 per cent by 2030.
