CEA Technologies has appointed former senior Royal Australian Air Force officer and defence industry executive Alan Clements AM CSC as its new chief executive officer.

CEA Technologies has appointed former senior Royal Australian Air Force officer and defence industry executive Alan Clements AM CSC as its new chief executive officer.

The appointment, announced by the CEA Board of Directors, comes as the Canberra-based radar and defence technology specialist expands its role in supporting Australia’s strategic defence priorities as a government business enterprise while serving as a central pillar of the company’s efforts to position itself for continued growth as a key pillar of Australia’s sovereign defence industry capability.

Clements will officially commence in the role on 1 June 2026, bringing decades of experience across defence, government and industry leadership.

CEA board chair Joycelyn Morton said Clements emerged from a comprehensive recruitment process as the ideal candidate to lead the company through its next phase of development.

“Alan is an exceptional leader with deep experience across both defence and industry, and a strong understanding of the strategic environment in which CEA operates,” Morton said.

“His proven ability to lead complex organisations, deliver major capability outcomes and foster strong relationships across government and the broader defence sector places him in an excellent position to guide CEA into the future.

“The board is confident Alan will build on the company’s strong foundations and continue strengthening its contribution to Australia’s sovereign defence capability.”

Clements joins CEA from L3Harris Technologies Australia and New Zealand, where he served as vice president and oversaw the company’s strategic growth, capability delivery programs and export expansion initiatives.

Before entering industry, he completed more than 30 years of service in the Royal Australian Air Force, retiring at the rank of air vice-marshal.

During his military career, Clements held several senior appointments, including Australia’s defence attaché to the United States and commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy. In the latter role, he led reforms aimed at improving officer education standards and organisational culture.

His service was recognised with appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia and the award of the Conspicuous Service Cross for distinguished leadership.

Speaking following the announcement, Clements said he is honoured to take on the role at a pivotal time for Australia’s defence industry sector.

“I’m excited to be joining CEA at a time when sovereign capability, innovation and delivery have never been more important to Australia’s national security,” he said.

“CEA has built an outstanding reputation for technical excellence and innovation, and plays a critical role in delivering capability outcomes for Defence.

“I look forward to working closely with the board, staff, government stakeholders and industry partners to build on that strong foundation and support the company’s continued growth and success.”

The appointment comes amid growing emphasis from the federal government on strengthening sovereign defence manufacturing, advanced technology development and local industry participation as Australia accelerates major capability acquisition programs under the National Defence Strategy.
