Hanwha Defence Australia has announced the appointment of Kim Dong-hyeon as the company’s new CEO.

Hanwha Defence Australia has announced the appointment of Kim Dong-hyeon as the company’s new CEO.

Kim previously held the position of head of Hanwha Aerospace Land Systems Business Group, which encompasses the company’s entire land defence operations, and has over 30 years of experience with the company in a range of leadership roles.

He has been successful in previously delivering the K9 project in Poland, Romania, Norway, Finland and India, and will be critical in ensuring the delivery of the Huntsman and Redback fleets are successfully and timely delivered to the Australian Defence Force.

Succeeding Ben Hudson as CEO, Kim is expected to strengthen Hanwha Defence Australia’s (HDA) long-term growth strategy as the company continues its commitment to strengthening sovereign defence systems and presence in Australia.

“Australia is well placed to become a defence export base, not simply a customer,” Kim said on the announcement.

“My role is to lay the foundation and grow the Australian leadership team that will take this company forward.

“That is what success looks like for HDA.”

Specifically, Kim will be the key oversight of the Hanwha Armoured vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE), which is being built in Geelong, Victoria, to accelerate local supply chains and technological growth.

“We are here to deliver these programs on schedule, build R&D capability and capacity in Australia, and make H-ACE a manufacturing and MRO&U (Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Upgrade) centre that the local industry and economy benefit from,” Kim said.
