Saturn Fluid Engineering has announced the formal signing of a memorandum of understanding with Cairns-based manufacturer Northern Chemicals to collaborate on the delivery of specialised engineering and chemical solutions across defence, maritime and industrial sectors.
The partnership combines Saturn’s specialist expertise in fluid system cleaning, flushing, passivation, contamination control, technical assurance and engineering support with Northern Chemicals’ Australian manufacturing, blending and chemical supply capability.
“As Defence investment continues to increase across Northern Australia, there is an increasing requirement for trusted Australian companies capable of supporting critical infrastructure, maritime assets, sustainment activities and industrial operations,” according to a public statement from Saturn Fluid Engineering.
“The specialised fluid management, engineering and chemical capabilities delivered through this partnership are highly relevant to these requirements and can be readily deployed in support of activities throughout the Northern Territory.
“Importantly, the collaboration represents a practical example of sovereign industrial capability development, bringing together Australian engineering expertise and Australian manufacturing capability to strengthen domestic supply chains, support regional industry participation and enhance Australia’s ability to sustain critical Defence and maritime assets.
“The partnership further demonstrates how organisations across Northern Australia can work collaboratively to strengthen regional capability, support national resilience and create opportunities for future economic growth.
“It also aligns strongly with the intent of the Australian government’s 2024 Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Plan: Evolving the enterprise, which identified the need for greater collaboration across industry, government, academia and other stakeholders to develop an integrated and resilient national maritime enterprise capable of supporting future shipbuilding and sustainment requirements.”
The Northern Territory is expected to play a critical role in building industrial capacity, technical expertise and sovereign capability required to support Defence operations, maritime sustainment and long-term economic development across the nation.
