Kongsberg Australia has achieved a major milestone as the first Australian manufactured Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System consoles are delivered to Europe.

The delivery is a part of a wider Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Coastal Defence System contract that has already been signed between the company and an undisclosed NATO nation.

“This first export delivery is a proud moment for our Australian team and supply chain partners, and our Global Supply Chain Program,” said Kongsberg Australia’s managing director, John Fry.

“...Demonstrating that Australian industry can deliver complex, high-tech defence capability to international customers while supporting sovereign capability in Australia.”

Based on the same hardware as the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System air defence systems, the NSM command-and-control console is a globally recognised strike system that offers capabilities for both land and sea.

The surface-to-surface system utilises the fifth-generation weapon to support a range of missions and necessities from defence forces around the world. The open architecture allows it to blend seamlessly with existing platforms and systems.

After initial testing, assembly and production in South Australia, the NSM consoles have been selected and operational for naval forces in Poland, Romania, Latvia, Norway, Germany, Spain, Denmark, the UK and the Netherlands.

This announcement follows Kongsberg Australia’s continued achievement of major production milestones, most recently celebrating the “topping out” ceremony at their new manufacturing facility in Newcastle.
