US advanced manufacturing company Hadrian has unveiled a US$260 million ($373.6 million) expansion that will dramatically increase its ability to manufacture complete defence systems, marking another significant step in rebuilding America’s industrial base as Washington races to out-produce strategic competitors.

The race to restore America’s defence industrial base has received a major boost, with advanced manufacturing company Hadrian announcing a $260 million capital raise and a sweeping expansion that will enable it to manufacture complete defence systems at unprecedented speed and scale.

The investment will significantly expand Hadrian’s AI-powered manufacturing network across California and Arizona, adding almost five football fields’ worth of advanced production space while broadening the company’s capabilities from precision-machined components to complete mission-critical products.

 
 

The funding package comprises a Series C investment led by existing investors Founders Fund and Lux Capital, alongside a factory expansion loan facility arranged by Morgan Stanley.

The expansion reflects growing concern across the United States that industrial capacity has become a decisive element of military power, with the ability to rapidly manufacture ships, missiles, aircraft, autonomous systems and munitions increasingly viewed as a strategic advantage in an era of renewed great power competition.

“America cannot afford to lose another generation of industrial capacity,” founder and chief executive Chris Power said.

“We’re building the factories that will secure American leadership in advanced manufacturing and create new jobs here in the United States. China is making massive bets on industrial dominance. The United States needs to respond not just with policy, but with production.”

At the heart of the announcement is Hadrian’s evolution into a full-spectrum defence manufacturer capable of producing everything from raw materials through to complete assemblies and finished platforms.

Rather than acting solely as a supplier of precision components, the company now intends to support the entire advanced manufacturing chain, allowing defence primes and government customers to rapidly scale production of complex systems across multiple domains.

Supporting that ambition is the launch of Hadrian’s new “factories-as-a-service” model, which enables defence contractors to rapidly establish scalable production capacity for existing and emerging programs without the lengthy timelines traditionally associated with building new manufacturing facilities.

The model is expected to support a range of high-priority US Department of Defense programs spanning munitions, aerospace, naval construction and advanced weapons manufacturing.

A cornerstone of the expansion is Factory 3 (F3), a new 270,000-square-foot production facility and software hub in Mesa, Arizona. Representing around $200 million in capital investment, the facility will create approximately 350 skilled manufacturing jobs while substantially increasing the company’s autonomous production capacity.

Hadrian has also begun searching for a new 400,000-square-foot corporate headquarters and research and development centre to support the recruitment of thousands of additional employees as production continues to expand.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs said the investment further reinforces the state’s position as one of America’s leading aerospace and defence manufacturing hubs.

Alongside the new facilities, Hadrian has announced the creation of Hadrian Maritime, a specialist division dedicated to applying the company’s AI-enabled manufacturing model to naval shipbuilding and maritime defence production.

The company confirmed this will be the first of several dedicated business units, with new divisions focused on missile systems, munitions and uncrewed aerial systems expected to be announced over coming months.

Collectively, the initiatives reflect growing recognition that expanding manufacturing throughput is now as important as developing next-generation military technologies.

Powered by Hadrian’s proprietary Opus autonomous manufacturing software platform, the company said new production facilities can become operational in less than six months – dramatically reducing the time required to establish new manufacturing capacity while creating more resilient defence supply chains.

The accelerated production model comes as the United States and its allies seek to rebuild industrial resilience after decades of offshoring while simultaneously preparing to sustain the high-volume production demands associated with modern conflict.

Since its previous funding round just 12 months ago, Hadrian said it has achieved tenfold year-on-year growth and now plans to establish a further four to five specialised manufacturing facilities over the next year.

As demand continues to surge across defence and national security sectors, Hadrian’s latest expansion demonstrates how AI-enabled manufacturing is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of the next generation of defence industrial capability – where strategic advantage will increasingly depend not only on designing advanced military systems but on producing them faster, at greater scale and with greater resilience than potential adversaries.
