ASPI begins search for fifth executive director after Bassi departure

The Council thanks Justin for his leadership and commitment to ASPI. He has led ASPI in a period of profound international change and disruption in defence and strategic affairs. With the full support of Council, Justin has made important reforms at ASPI to build its resilience and sustain its remarkable analytical capabilities, according to a public statement from Dr David Feeney.

“From research on defence capabilities, China and artificial intelligence to the expert convening of major events such as the Sydney Dialogue on critical technologies, ASPI continues to be at the forefront of defence and security analysis globally,” Dr Feeney said.

“As John Howard and Kim Beazley wrote on 22 August celebrating ASPI's 25th anniversary, 'ASPI has consistently exerted positive influence on security policy.'

“The Council has thanked Justin for his professionalism in ensuring that the Council now has the time to engage in successful succession planning.

“The Council remains proud of ASPI's position as Australia's premier defence institute and in our globally renowned staff.

“The Council congratulates Justin on his service to the institute over the last five years and wish him every success in his continuing career.”
