The 2029 and 2031 Australian International Airshows will once again be held at Avalon Airport near Melbourne, with the biennial event having last been held in 2025, attracting more than 900 exhibitors and generating $240.9 million for the Victorian economy.

The 2029 and 2031 Australian International Airshows will once again be held at Avalon Airport near Melbourne, with the biennial event having last been held in 2025, attracting more than 900 exhibitors and generating $240.9 million for the Victorian economy.

“The Avalon Australian International Airshow has proudly called Victoria home since 1992, and we welcome the Victorian government’s continued commitment to the event through to 2031,” said AMDA Foundation CEO Justin Giddings.

“This long-term commitment allows us to continue showcasing Australian aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing capability on the world.”

According to the Victorian government, the state’s defence sector generates $10.9 billion in direct annual expenditure and provides $1.7 billion in exports and $4.9 billion in gross value while supporting 29,000 jobs across the state.

Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Horne said events like Avalon Airshow “bring visitors to Victoria, back local businesses and showcase our economic and industrial strengths to the world”.

“Labor is creating valuable opportunities for Victorian businesses to expand, generate local jobs and strengthen relationships with global partners,” she said.

“The Avalon Airshow through to 2031 showcases our state on the global stage as a leader in defence industry.”

The 2027 Avalon Airshow will be held from 23 to 28 February, with Qantas last month signing up as its official airline partner.

Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson called the agreement a “natural alignment”, with the airline looking forward to being part of one of “Australia’s most significant aviation events”.

“The Avalon Airshow has become one of the leading aviation events in the world, and we’re proud to be joining as Official Airline Partner,” he said.

“Australia has a long history of innovation in aviation which is shaped by the distances we fly. The air show celebrates the capability of our industry and the people behind it, and we’re looking forward to celebrating that in 2027.”
